Veterans are still falling through the cracks

Government services, private companies, and non-profit organizations offer resources and support to veterans who have served our country.

While the help is out there, veterans regularly find themselves lost and alone. Everyone has unique needs that will not match every organization, and the feeling of frustration and rejection can be debilitating.

In 2018, I was left for dead by the local VA clinic. Traveling across the country for school, the VA hospital in California thankfully got me the help I desperately needed. Even then, upon returning home to North Carolina I found myself unable to get back into therapy through the local services. I was lucky enough to stumble upon some of the hand-working and caring local organizations including the Jacksonville Vet Center who got me back on track. The VA process continued to be complex and intimidating. Personally, I saw the urgent need for connection to make sure that others just like me don't get left behind.
